Meeting with Mr. Zamzuri Abdul Majid (Director of STAD)

15 SRC excos, those who won after contesting in the election and those who won uncontested, had a meeting with Mr. Zam, the Director of STAD (Student Affairs and Sports Division), on 27th November 2007 (Tuesday) at 9am to discuss several issues.

Mr. Zam

Among the agenda of the meeting were:

Introduction of SRC Excos

  1. All new SRC excos introduced themselves to Mr Zam. Pleasantries were exchanged.

Problem with SRC Election
  1. Suggestions for more polling booths in several locations around the campus was made by Excos.
  2. The excos who contested in the election inquired for any possible compensation because of the cancellation of election in Trimester 1. Mr Zam informed them that SRC election follows the policies of Malaysian Election Commission and it is stated by the commission policies that candidates of the election would not be given any compensation if the election were to be cancelled for any reasons.
  3. Mr Zam said Industrial Training students and Final year students should not run for election next year. He also said this rule would be included in the Election form next year.
  4. Election for the academic term 2008/2009 would be held around week 6 (Poor voter turnout if held close to study week).

Appoinment of additional SRC Excos

Every year the SRC is composed of 20 excos. The election allows for only 15 candidates to be appointed through the election. The remaining seats would be filled by appointment through interview conducted by the 15 SRC excos.

For this academic term (2007/2008), Mr. Hamdan (President of SRC) requested for 7 candidates to be appointed through interview therefore the total number of excos in the council would be 22. He stated the following reasons to justify his request:

  1. Lack of representative from CADP
  2. Only 1 Indian exco (Nicholas) in the current council
  3. Only 1 female exco (Yeong Khar Mun) in the current council
  4. Around 6 excos would be going for industrial training in the first trimester

Mr Zam at first hesitated but later agreed to accommodate the request. He, however, stated unequivocally that this would be allowed only for this council and should not be taken as a precedent for future councils.

Other issues
  1. Lack of packing space in campus.
  2. Library carrel lights cannot be switched on before 6pm.

The meeting was adjourned 2 hours later.
