Imposition of IT services fee (RM100)

Update (June 30, 2008): The imposition of this fee is planned by the University management. We have just been told that the fee amount is still pending consideration; it has not been finalized yet.

Update (July 1, 2008): Please refrain from using derogatory terms, name calling and any form of vulgar remarks when commenting. Such comments will be deleted on sight. All comments for this particular post will be printed and submitted together with the report that we are preparing to show the students' response towards this issue.

Assalamualaikum and very good day to all,

We, from the Students Representative Council, Multimedia University (Malacca Campus) would like to hear some opinions/suggestions from students regarding the matter explained below:

Imposition of IT services fee (RM100)

The University is planning to impose an IT service fee of approximately RM100/year on all students starting from the academic year 2008/2009 (this trimester). The fee covers the maintenance fees of MMLS, course registration system, wireless services and other online systems. Besides this, a portion of the fee will be used to upgrade the bandwidth of Malacca campus (from 16 Mbps to 34 Mbps).

Unfortunately, there are several controversial issues:

1. Although the students from both of the campuses will be charged the same fee, Cyberjaya campus will get a better service in terms of bandwidth increment (from 34 Mbps to 100 Mmbps). This is because the hardware of Cyberjaya campus is more advance than us and our hardware is not able to support the 100 Mbps bandwidth (Cyberjaya hardware can support up to 400 mbps while ours can only support up till 100 Mbps).

2. Not every student is using the wireless service.

3. CITS cannot guarantee that after the imposition of the IT services fee, all the flaws that we encountered before (eg. system down during the course registration period) can be solved once and for all.

4. Number of concurrent connections to the web services such as MMLS and course registration may or may not be increased. If it is not increased, the increase in bandwidth would not make much of a difference as the number of users allowed to access the said websites will still remain the same. As such, at high usage periods (i.e. before/during exam for MMLS & course registration days) students will still have the problem of not being able to access the websites. It would be akin to widening the roads but still having the same number of exits – You’ll get to the exits/entrances (i.e. websites) faster. Once there, you’ll have to wait in line (for countless hours) just as before.

However Mr. Zaidy Jaafar, the Director of Finance Division, has said that the fee amount has not been finalized yet. Finance Division will review the amount and have a meeting with us in the near future. He also requested a report from SRC regarding this matter (including all the suggestions and the problems that have been encountered by students).

Pursuant to this, the SRC would like to know the students’ perspective on this issue. In addition to that, it would be of great assistance to us if you could include some suggestions so that we could prepare a good report.

Any comments or suggestions can be made in the following ways:

  1. Send your comments or suggestions to the SRC room (written)
  2. State your comments or suggestions in the comments section of this blog.

Also, we have proposed for Finance Division to conduct an open discussion session with students where they (the Finance officers) will explain the need for imposing the fee to the students and at the same time get the students’ opinions on this matter. We hope if this materializes, all students will attend the session and make known their views.

That’s all for now. We will make constant updates on this matter from time to time. Do check back regularly.

Thank you.

One suggestion, if you guys wanna get feedback on this matter from students, pls post a link to this blog on the Bulletin Board, coz i think not many are aware of this blog's existence. Since this is a serious issue, i think this step is a must. As for my opinion, A BIG NO to that FEE. Based on the information given, it is really unfair to the students, wht MMU is doing.

Anonymous said...

If MMU really needs my money, i do not mind 'donating' some to them. What MMU could do is combine both library and IT fees under 1 utility fee. This fee should not exceed RM100. And the point no.3, as given in the info, this shows how thick-skinned MMU can be at times, cant promise better services but still want our money? This is daylight ROBBERY!

SRC! It's time for yal to show us that we voted you are a right choice! I believe that SRC is not a Doll that control by University. Right? Please think for us, Libraby fees 100-20=80! If add that ET? fees. We've to pay 180 per year! It's almost 200! I've to save it from my pocket money or just forget about my lunch for few months?

At first i read this news, i'm kinda shock of it! I couldn't believe MMU still wanna suck up student's money after what they had done regarding "library" fees. After all, in the past 4 years I had been at MMU, I couldn't see why they need to charge student for "IT services" fee. As long as I'm aware, MMU still can pay those CITS technician to do the maintainance. I bet, MMU will not hired any IT specialized, even after the "IT service" fee being imposed. I do believe, the service will going nowhere, after what had happen to "library" fees issue (although MMU already charged student with library fees, there is no significant improvement on library facilities and services). I bet, it'll gonna be the same with this "IT Service" fees crap.

By the way, I do believe the strategy will gonna be like this. At first, SRC will announce the fees that we do need to pay with such a high amount (RM100). After receive some complain, then SRC claim they manage to reduce it to like RM80 for example. But in reality, they do wanna charge us at RM80, at the first place!! (the same cases happen for "library" fees). Ah, i'm getting tired of it!

This is crap, i'm a multimedia university student in malacca since 2004, that year i was a diploma student.

Now im currently having my Gamma 3rd semester in MMU. Every time i hear that MMU increase this and that. Parking fees increase, library fees increase, course fees increase, this and that increase just in merely 4 years !!!

What else do they want to charge???
Walking the pathway need to charge anot per entry to campus?
Usage of toilet fees as well???
Earn more !!! $.$

We, a student in multimedia university, before entering this university, are promoted with their high-end facilities which is provided after we enrol into the university, thus it encouraged us to study in MMU. Why don't they just make banting and fliers stating they will charge this and that after students enrolled?? Duh.. pathetic ppl

Such a cheapskate private university, implementing this and that which is already exist since years ago and then charge us, the victim(student).

We're just merely students, if we can afford so many fees, i would have gone to other colleges where the fees is so much cheaper and better services/facilities.

Im also getting loans from ptptn, which is really not enough for my total fees. (After the price increase)
Now they wanna charge somemore... sigh
They want us to borrow money from alongs is it? Then jump to death because cant pay the fees and appears on newspaper only they stop the price increase?

An advice for MMU, don't take advantages on student when you gained the popularity. A paper cannot cover up flames.

Regards,
A once proud student of MMU.

It reminds me of the stupid fees where SRC fought and reduced the fee. But in the end we got to pay it. Why not just fight and abolish it. If u want the support for protest or etcs, feel free to create it, coz its easy to gather us up and fight for our student's right.

No point SRC making this out and in the end need us to pay the fees.

In the past, only feedbacks from student is never enough. SRC is "Student's Representative Council"

Not MMU's administrators lapdog.

Fight for students right!

Yes,SRC you've heard us correctly.

We, the MMU students want the abolishment of the IT or whatever fee which they will plan to impose.

I personally is tired of the conspiracy that's going on with the MMU Administration trying to persuave the poor student of their money. Especially, for Melaka campus, not much big upgrades are done. The campus is just the same back 2 years ago. No new buildings, roads, or high budget facilities.
In fact this is a good method of persuasion,

" Ask a bigger favour first, which is most likely to be rejected. Offer the small actual favour later, which is less likely to be rejected."

That is how MMU got themselves their library fees, hopefully it doesn't work on this new fees this time.

Honestly, SRC, reject the plan outright, especially for Melaka. It's would the greatest favour if you did.

This is somewhat unfair to those who are leaving outside of hostel and charged the same fees while we have to pay our own streamyx and sort. Now we need to pay for the connection that we do not own.

what is this .The university is increasing the fees as they want.why should they charge RM100,thats what we are paying a big amount of fees where we dont get enough satisfactory like class not clean.chairs and table broken.as university level university should provide allIT facilities.I still can remember that university mention in the hand out that Internet is totally freeinside the university. Now its like accuring money tak-fully.
what is the hell SRC doing. They shut there month for everything. They will increase the way they want but we are the one who pays

SRC we voted for you.
but you all seems to be pupet and couldnt do anything.
your promise is that you lie

I don't agree with that campus decision. Why we must pay for IT service Fee?
Not only the student that used all the online system, all lectures, and most of the staff must used online system. eg.The finance dept.
All of them get the benefit from the online system,so why just the student that have to pay for IT services fee?

That seem NOT FAIR

OMG! again!!IT fee = maintenance fees of MMLS, course registration system, wireless services and other online systems. wtf this suppose to be what we should get from uni,but they charge for it now?? The problem is the price rm100!! this is unreasonable, pay for something like that.SRC please oppose it!

Anonymous said...

MMU should give some strong point to support the necessary to im pose "IT fee". No point, just impose a fee required student to pay for it without any reason(s) explaining the necessary of it. SRC should not weak on this issue. If really, MMU wan to impose a "IT fee" than they should show us their sincerity. example, if i pay for the IT fee. if the system down, how much MMU should refund back to student, it's show that MMU are really wan to improve the system and to facilite MMU with "1st class facility" and not "1st class price and 3rd class facilty". MMU always target student for some cheap money for policy such as library fee, no refund for excess payment, and now IT fee. Student are under attacks, SRC should show yr abilities.

Anonymous said...

First of all, if MMU wants to collect money from us, they're going to have to do better than that. At least state out what problems they're facing and how they're going to overcome it with our money. The systems was working alright before this and we didn't even need to pay any IT fees for maintainance. I would like to hear more from the MMU Finance side of the story and their reason for the IT Fees. I'm not satisfied with just this.

First of All, I Hate That Stupid Bald Guy (SBG) manage our Campus. 2nd of all, what make they think we are rich enough to pay extra RM100? What did we get from that? Extra free Meal? Extra Extend Wireless Network Range? Extra Good Quality of Facilities? Extra Good Manners of Officer? all of the money goes into SBG Pocket..

Nicholas said...

Please refrain from using deragotary terms, name-calling and other forms of personal attacks.

It would be more productive if you could come up with suggestions to overcome this problem rather than simply saying you don't agree.

Some of the good points raised by readers so far would be:

1. Staff are also using the online services. They are not charged for it.

2. No significant improvement to library after imposing library fees.

3. Cannot guarantee that system wont be down despite paying the IT services fee.

4. Students feel that RM100 is too much and would prefer not paying at all because it has been free all this while. A sudden increase is not justified.

Keep your suggestions coming. We need more...

Thanks.

To show a good faith, MMU Melaka campus must show to students improvement in IT service then later easly can talk about chager fees to MMU students.

other thing, mmu fees have been icreased time by time which the students can not pay for it. this will impact to students searching other collages which is cheapest than MMU.

Anonymous said...

What?? another Rm100 again!! For the It Service Fees!!!! again!!! last year library fees suddenly charge but this time another fees for It Fees!! get the hell out of the here!!!! why mmu charge us so much!!!! think we all from rich persons!!! mmu so selfish to upgrade the bandwidth for the cyberjaya.. now melaka? i dun think so... and then mmls maintenance and the wireless service??? is it because the fuel price is increase so mmu fees also increasing!! haha so funny!!! mmu just hunted for students' money!!! if they charge us, then please charge to all the staffs also or minus something privileges such as allowance or bonus or salary from the staffs including boards of director...dun charge only to students!! this must be fair and square.....

Anonymous said...

i think is ridiculous for adding such a fees with that kind of amount...how could MMU adding annual fees every year? previously was library fees, and now IT service fees? then why don't MMU deduct the fees from the staff's salary? how could online registration system, MMLS need to be pay by the student? MMU should provide the system since the campus was build for the purpose of providing courses to students. Is ridiculous, and we students felt really regret of taking degree at MMU, is like cheating our money and the quality of MMU could not even be compare with the price of the courses. It just like is not at that standard..don't let us be SHAME of MMU instead of making us proud of it.

Anonymous said...

I feel that mmu is finding ways to suck money from the student. Eventhough src would be able to lower the amount to be paid for the IT fees, it is still not fair for us student since the tuition fees itself is highpriced for that reason(to include facilities and all).

Is there anyway that we can take proper action legally when this fee is implemented, perhaps if every student can fork out RM 1, that would be enough to get some legal advice(or not, since i dunno much bout legal stuff). Or maybe somebodys parents is a lawyer, they might be able to give a little insight on the matter.

Anonymous said...

Lets make its simple. If they want to charges us with something, they have to give something in return. By i mean something, it should have a physical looks. Such as, new Computers in Lab, New Table/ Chairs in lec room in Block A and B, Upgrade Wireless System Range or, just make it simple, cut 5% of subject fees.. it will Work.. OR.. GIVE Extra previlage to Student.. Let say, distribute free snack/Drinks in campus in normal working hours or Other Free stuff.. They all know, they all have degrees/masters n PHD..

Anonymous said...

i dun see y melaka students should be charged the same fees when we are not going to feel the improvements of the services provided to us. since most of the improvements workload are concentrated in cyber, might as well make them pay the higher price compared to us. make them pay the full amount for that matter. it is like paying for a good car but someone else is enjoying the luxury of driving and riding it. i think most of us expect improvements for those kind of fees to take place. no improvements in services provided, would make us feel like we are just contributing to something which has no return value. tell us what improvements that the students will get and impose the fees accordingly. afterall, these are all students we are talking about, we dun earn, we just have money allocated to us for our studies. but dun get me wrong, i welcome the idea that the university is trying to improve services/facilities to students, but do it by taking our problems in to the matter as well.

Anonymous said...

Another charges again??!!I think MMU really too much of it..previously library fees, now IT services fee..Every year MMU will find a reason to charge the student, why don't MMU give back the student walking fees?since the student walk to the campus..If the student gonna paid for it, how about the staff? i think they should paid double of it since they working while we just student..why the maintenance fees of online system need to paid by the student?how about the university itself? they don even need pay 1 cent of it? it's really unfair! RM100 for each student? They think we printing money? We are not LIM KOK WING's student,we still loan from the ptptn..I'm really regret studying in MMU since MMU just talk about money and keep charging the student while the standard is lower than other university..

Keep in mind that RM 100 /person, into roughly 8k student, that`s about RM 800k. They should first break it down all the expenses and justify the fee before such imposition.

Secondly, you might want to factor in the fact that all the students under scholarship who are barely having 2 meals to eat a day with their minimal allowances will have to bear this themselves as the provider will not pay any other fee except tuition fee.

Thirdly, it sets horrible precedence for other division to impose a fee. What`s next? fees for to change the light bulbs, table and chairs.

Since mmu made a unilateral decision to upgrade all the wireless system (which I honestly think the 'added' security is a bitch) they should bear the cost themselves. SRC should strongly oppose this new fee. I won`t settle even for a compromise of paying 50% less.

Anonymous said...

IT Fees RM100 = money making university ??

It states that the wireless fees is free in campus expecially hostel ? Why it will need to paid since i live in hostel already 3 years ?

But i still feel happy because SRC still want to serve us, as a student MMU. Hope you guys can make it faster and wont make us dissapoint to VOTE you all.

to src, i wanted to add some point in your report, every time you go to other university for promoting mmu, there's a pamphlet right? i believe in that pamphlet stated that mmu give all that kind of services, people come to mmu because most of it is online,we no need to meet lecturer to buy notes for the whole semester for every subject(mmls),the wireless services, i never use it because i my labtop dont have wireles, i think if they really wanted to charge for wireless, charge thoose who r using it,i believe nobody will register to use wireless anymore..students choose mmu because they promise@promote that they have good services, instead of keep charging current student, they must expand their marketing strategy to gain more student...just a suggestion..pity laa..not everyone afford to pay that amount..event rm30 pun i will think again n again..keep up your good work yaa src

i would still prefer the previous src team. much more better in their work...try harder src melaka for this year.

ok... these are my suggestions:

1) if mmu wants to charge this on students, please state it in the brochures for the next intake. this is to be fair to students as it is considered a must charges.

2) We students already made to pay an amount for our SITI HASMAH DIGITAL LIBRARY which means include high tech services like online services. No reason to charge for internet connection within library area!
or if they can not to provide internet services, Don't Offer IT Course To Students.

3) Using MMLS is the way lecturers communicate with students which can be considered teaching tools by MMU. So, should they charge again separately when they already impose tuition fees? Why dont charge for each marker pen lecturers use then?

4) Online registration system is just a way for students to do add/drop subjects. Do students in other universities charge for that?
then i think we students rather opt for the traditional way which is lining up infront of ERU.

Next are complaints from me.

1) Where goes the library fees which already imposed to students for 1 year? Prove to us where MMU spent it? More reference books? I don't think so.
Melaka campus library even have only one sopy of reference book for the text book use by lecturers.
IT references books are mostly old editions. Come on, MMU is a university specialise in IT. I DOUBT!!! shh,... shameful not?

Like seriously? IT fees? RM100? What is MMU up to exactly? I agree with most commenters, that the fees collected will most probably not put into proper use. The library fees is a very good example. What has the library contributed to us after charging us the fees other than providing us with old ancient reference books and a place to study? Oh wait, do extremely bad service + super bad attitude to students count? Service with smile, how funny! Now, about the IT fees, i am LESS than willing to pay for a simple reason. Not because i cant afford it, i just simply dont wana throw my parents' hard earned money away knowing that MMU will not give us the results they promise/we want. Plus, you cant even guarantee whether the stupid online registration congestion can be solved. We paid so much for the tuition fees then after that have to stress gile babi over not bein able to register for the subjects and the slots that we want. Multimedia University? Haha. If i'd known better, i wouldnt even enter this U. I'd rather spend a lil more to study in those private Us where students' rights are given priority where i probably could take a twinning programme and not get stucked here in msia. So SRC, are u actually gona do ur part for the students, or are u just gona let history repeat huh?

The more i read this article, the more pissed off i am. First, too many fees being imposed until now. Tuition fees, registration fees, club, insurance, library, trust fund, course fees, bla bla bla..Second, RM100?! Seriously, it's way too high for students. What if just collect RM1-5 from each student like 2000 students X RM5, u get RM10k, more than enough right? If RM100 we must pay, then better all students apply their personal streamyx connection. Now so cheap streamyx, rm 60 also can get. Minyak naik, barang naik, minyak naik..then all kind of fees naik. If revealed to public or paper, sure MMU will get bad impression by pple. Last word, no way I'm going to pay for this. Enough already! If this fee is approved, we all "tunjuk perasaan" then biar mmu malu..padan muka

Dear SRC,

Based on the students reaction regarding the imposition of IT fees, it is suffice to note that all of us are against it.

There are not much improvement in terms of facilities and building during this 2-3 years of my studies in MMU. To collect RM 100 from 8k student a trimester in MMU is just unthinkable to just spend on MMU's online system and wifi. The total amount collected(Rm 800k X 3 = RM 2.4Million) would then be enough to even build another 5 story building in MMU. So the imposation of the fee is unjustified for just online system and wifi that has existed all the while.

I wish the SRC would champion the student's right from being taken advantage by the MMU administration. We do know about the increased cost of livelihood but to let the poor student to absord the cost is just absurb. MMU being an established University in specialized in Technology and Management should have investment from researchs thesis and publications that are able to absord the cost. What difference from MMU with any other 2nd rate college if their income are just based on tuition fees?

I wouldn't even begin to talk about how unjustified to impose it when there are student on Industrial training. It is already unjustied to charge in the first place. Unless there are proof expenses like what Alex say.

"Actuality in Action, Integrity in Principle" , let's up hold it.

Just wondering, I have been an MMU student since 2005. Back then there wasn't such thing as IT fees or even library fees. Why now? How was the costs for IT and library were covered back then? And besides, what about students who are away for industrial training who can't fully utilise the services that we paid for since the fees are on per year basis?

Anonymous said...

This is ridiculus to charge such a big amount for IT fees. Students have had enough burden to deal increasing price of food and petrol fuel. Why should this comes when the economy is bad and during inflation?

I believe there are many students that don't get to enjoy the IT facilities that the MMU Melaka provide. Wireless are meant for those who can afford wifi devices. How about those who don't have such devices?

What's wrong with MMU's financial? They keep charging us extra fees year by year. Last year was the library fees. This year is the IT fees. We engineering students have paid more than enough fees for our lab and tuitions fees which is enough to cover the IT facilities provided in the FET building. With the increasing number of students in MMU, there shouldn't be any financial difficulties from MMU.

This is university from Telekom. Trying to charge the students IT fees for the internet connection?? I don't agree with that.

Multimedia University - - , IT services requires extra payment,i think other ppl would laugh until tergolek when they heard about this .....

for the love of God...what in the world is wrong with MMU. Do they think that the students are cash cows or something...there was the library fees (which 80% of the students didn't even used it, and by the way...it's a friggin library, not a night market) and now this IT maintenance services stole your money fees...damn, they should change the definition of MMU to MONEY MAKING UNIVERSITY.

Anonymous said...

this is so pathetic ... want the fees all..but not that we all in mmu here get a better reception of wifi...even not all of our devices can be use. phew what a pathetic and lame excuse. plus...want 100 some more,i think u had to do the claculation! 100 per person, hey times with how many student in the MMU.......wow that is a lot of money.with the bad service. pity!

Anonymous said...

Come on people.no more additional payment.its a service that MMU must provide to us.all this facilities make mmu different from other univ.I think i'll be agree if mmu make this just as a deposit.

Anonymous said...

Well, history would tell us that MMU management will somehow impose the fees even if the students are against it. The question now is how much they can impose.

So, in order to please both parties, why not MMU merge the library fees and the IT fees into one single fee which is not too exhorbitant (RM105). By merging the fees, it can be justified as the library can use the funds to purchase/ repair books, or to upgrade its services. On the other hand, MMU has to agree to increase the bandwith.

Anonymous said...

just FYI:
- mmu internet system are using petrol!!!
- library also need fuel to power up all the system to keep running!!!

fuel price increased so they have to charge us to cover the maintainance cost such as IT specialist and engineer..wat da f..!!!

Anonymous said...

I DONT THINK SO IT IS A GOOD IDEA...WE AS STUDENT ARE ALREADY PAYING SO MUCH IN ORDER TO GET A PAPER FROM THE UNIVERSITY,WHY CAN'T MMU JUST PROVIDE US THESE FACILITIES FOR FREE...OR AS COPLIMENT FOR US TO BE IN MMU...PLEASE TRY TO THINK THOSE STUDENTS WHO CANT AFFORT TO PAY EVEN THEIR FEES,HOW ARE THEY GOING TO BARE THIS ADDITIONAL COST.FROM TIME TO TIME MMU IS GIVING BURDEN TO MMU STUDENTS BY INCREASING MONEY HERE AND THERE....PLEASE CONSIDER US FROM OUR SHOES...HOPE TO DEMOLISH THE IDEA OF US PAYING THE RM100.

Anonymous said...

I do not agree with the charging of IT fee of RM100...wat right do they hv to charge us so much...1st is the Library fee, then now IT fee...later wat ??Pls dont let them charge us...Nt enuf pocket money alrdy...Some more not everyone will be able to use the service...N the problem of server down might occur again...So,I totally disgree with this matter..

I don't see any valid reason which could justify this proposed imposition by the finance dept. To me, they just want students to fork out RM100 to them per person and then will we won't have any problems with MMLS, MMU's online portal, slow pcs in certain labs and bla bla bla. You just need to be fed money to actually start working to improve things huh MMU? I've seen too many rapid changes here and there being made eversince our previous president left - most of them which are nonsensical to be implemented in such a rapid speed. And now here we are - another fee being imposed. Justify the library fee and the increase in parking fee first dumbass!

Anonymous said...

RM100 per year is a lot of money.

We've paid RM60/year for library fees and yet nothing come out of it.

Why don't MMU show us what our RM60 has done for the library so far?

Melaka student has been "anak tiri" compared with Cyber. Why do we pay the same amount but get less?

Why do MMU gatal n go upgrade WiFi into WPA-Entreprise when not many student use it? Only computer users can use it now, iPhone, PSP or PDA phone can't use it anymore.

So, we're paying RM100 for secure, inconvenient WiFi, more bandwidth but MMLS(All they did is change the homepage layout, nothing more), Course Registration still suck and buying new RM10k+ servers when they can use clustered Linux servers. On top of that, after we paid RM60 and nothing about the library changed, at all.(Monitors at library cause my eyes to bleed)

The only ones who enjoy the bigger bandwidth is hostel and WiFi users. They can download faster while most MMU students that don't use campus computers need to pay?

even the library fee is BIG BULL SHIT..if u count how many student at mmu and how many seat in the library it doesn't even cover half of the student...mmu just wanna SUCK STUDENTS POKETS
even the education quality IS NOT high level of education..the campus facility, class rooms, elevators is all BULL SHIT..it should be better for what the students pay for tuation fee
and i dont know how this a telekom company university and have BAD IT services.. it's like the one who said before "daylight ROBBERY"

great...there we go again...last it was the library fees n now the so called IT fees....everything has to do with politics...oil price hikes, everything else hikes.....can u all believe it...n MMU is just trying suck more money from us...if this ridiculous charges are imposed, every student has to for student trust fund , lib fees and IT fees every year...n it's like 110 + 60 +100= 260 just for miscellaneous stuffs...besides how did MMU manage all these years maintaining its MMLS and wireless service without charging the students? Finance Division really have to try their best to justify these charges....SRC we have faith in u....fight for justice!!!

Anonymous said...

just an honest opinion here.
100 x 20000 students , how much did MMU gain?
i think is ridiculous by charging 100 bucks for it. whats the point of studying in MMU- Multimedia University if we hav to pay for the it services.

i dont mind to pay for the services, but plz consider that some of us cannot afford to pay for any unnecessary expenses.especially now during this inflation period.

if there is a serious matter in credit management, i think is fair for us student of Mmu to know the truth...in other hand why not combine the lib fees together with it services n with what so ever more under 1 utilities charge not exceed more thn rm100 per annum.

be considerate to Us...~

Anonymous said...

RM100 x 15k students = RM1.5mil/year

If they want to charge us, they need to state how much each service maintenance cost per month plus how much they are subsidizing towards the cost.

Don't charge a rough figure!

Anonymous said...

Basically the gist of it, MMU has management problems. I'm not trying to be personal here but the gist of it is MMU dun know how to manage the students and the system effectively.

Wanting to put the onus on the students and "isolating the systems" is surely the safest way but also more expensive. Well, what to do? Any RPK alike person in MMU?

Anonymous said...

I would've though that all this has been included in the fees. RM100 per student is a substantial amount. Its a few million ringgit.

If its only about RM10 - RM20, then the cost should be absorbed.

Anonymous said...

previously imposed the fee for library, now wanted to imposed the IT fee... what is going on.
why mmu and SRC itself everytime make an empty agreement, and do unjustify things.
imposed lib fee, but then service is sucks, now wanted to imposed the IT fee, but no any improvement.
all the lib and IT fee is jus under utilities fee, and i agree with one of the person said, utilities fees not suppose exceed rm 100, got also jus max for rm 100.
frankly tell, i guess there has a lot people not statisfy, even can be said hate the SRC by now.
everytime said stand for student right this and that, but end up just for your own benifition and neglect the students right.
you are student representative coucil, is stand for all the student in mmu itself,
but apparently what you all been promise to student to do this and that, help this and that, is all totally an empty promise.
all you can think is that you all is SRC then got the power to do this and that, but forgot the real purpose of SRC itself.

but still, i mention back again, i'm really totally disagree with the imposing of the RM 100 IT fees, even if imposing, combined with the library fee and total up just for rm 100.

Anonymous said...

i not mind paying the fees, but all the money that we have pay need to clarification, or can be said what the thing that we going to get.
what's the improvement that going to have?
if we pay already but end up service is still the same, no point we paying it.
better use the money on the student daily usage or montly usage rather then pay things that not going to works.
what is the total maintainence fees that needed? give us all the figure, all the detail.
don't just keep it like secret kind of, we as student we need to know waht's going one.
as our parents also need to know what's the money go to.
do you think parents easy to earn money?

"The fee covers the maintenance fees of MMLS, course registration system, wireless services, etc."

Hi, i would seriously like to know what other things 'etc' includes. The 3 reasons stated above:
- Maintenance of MMLS
- Course registration system
- Wireless services
ARE VOID simply because the university has been providing these services for free all this while.

Come to think of it, all these systems help not just the students but also the university.

Just imagine that there's no online course registration system. For students, well, we just need to line up in long ques. As for the ERU staffs, let's just say that they would need to service all of us without complaining. Add to the fact that we would all be using the add/drop form which costs money since its made of paper.

The MMLS on the other hand is a tool for lecturers to reach all their students and not the other way around. The part where it's supposed to be an online learning system has long since been forgotten. Most of the learning objects are not even functioning(for IT course). Students just go there to get their notes. If we have to pay, why not just ask the lecturers to upload their notes elsewhere where it's free. I don't see the need to pay hard earned cash just so that i could enter into a system(that sometimes fails) just to get my lecture notes.

Lastly, the wi-fi system. Like most of the comments given by others, not everyone is using it and those who have been using it obviously aren't satisfied with the service. I don't believe in the 'Pay us first and then we will show you good service' motto. I think that most of the students who are using it would rather not use it if they need to pay. As for students who have not been using it, it doesn't matter whether the Wi-Fi system gets upgraded or not since they won't be using it.

Hence, i would like to know what 'etc' consists of. Unless the reasons of charging us students are reasonable and can be properly justified, it would be as one of the commentators called it, Daylight Robbery.

I do hope that the Open Discussion which the SRC proposed would materialize. Just make sure that the time is convenient for everyone. I'm sure all of us students would bring our 'machine guns' and start shooting the finance officers. XD

I think, now is the time STUDENT MUST KNOW, what are the Things that MMU Spent for from OUR Extra Fees.

As we are the members of an Organization ( Student ) , also as an Investor we Have the RIGHT to know
What are the Things That MMU Spent Our Money For.

Maybe Not For Tuition Fees becoz they have right since they already provide Us with Teaching services,
But to Other Stuff that we have to pay.

Like Library Fees, IT fees, what else Fees? Parking Fine?

They SHOULD Tell Us what are the money flow since all That kind of things that we
pay are not the kind of thing/service that we get accordingly.

Maybe not all of us using library.Maybe we use library Once a year.

We pay RM100 for library, we are expecting MMU could give better service..
Does the Library give us better service? Does Library Provide US extra chairs and table?
The service are alweys poor like before.

Definitely the students will kill the new Bald Guy if this IT fees imposed. They should have improve the lecturer first of all for god sake! Some foreign lecturers really sucks with English pronunciation and really makes the learning process difficult. Secondly, as most of the comments said about the library fees that was imposed. So far they are nothing been improved since the trimester starts. Is it just empty talk? Just talk, imposed, and no action of improvement. Thirdly, I will take this matter seriously to the press and media if they really imposed it. Let we all tell the world how actually MMU sucks the student's money. Fourthly, most of the students are using loan to pay the fees, and all. For f*ck sake, don't they think about our welfare? We need to 'hutang' to study la! We are not making money, for god sake. Just think about it... "New president looks ahead - The Star" - So this is what this baldy call looks ahead is it? Sucking the students money! Bukan ape la botak, fikir la, dari dulu lagi, nak improve it la ini la, tapi xde improve ape pun. Yang aku nampak, sign board XpaX gile babi naik dekat exam hall ade la. Don't talk bull shit la. Improve the old promises first before proceeding to implement a new fees@policies.

This is too ridiculous, i think they made more money from fees, yet still need another fee for maintenance cost? with this large sum of money, they can't even maintain it properly, everything is still the same. There's no point paying more.

OMG..MMU named as MULTIMEDIA University, yet charging students on its IT and Multimedia services. What the heck is this all about?

To MMU, if you wanna be the biggest joke in Malaysia's educational institutes, go ahead with your retarded charging chain.

I don't think it's reasonable for us in malacca campus. This is especially regarding the bandwithh thingy. We're only getting an increment of 53% and the cyber campus are getting 194% and yet we have to pay the same amount of money???I think that would be ridiculous.Just ask anyone.I'm sure they would agree on this.

paying money again and again...Iam an arabic student and to be completely honest, most of the international students can afford to pay the extra RM100 but we really feel so sorry abt some of the students who even canot afford to eat properly..the cost keeps increasing. if this matter is nt seriously looked into , it will lead to unpleasent impact which i think it will destroy MMU'S reputation

When i first tell my friends that im going to study here (MMU), the FIRST thing they told me is MMU = MONEY MAKING UNIVERSITY.
Now i know why they said so and it's very OBVIOUS.

I HAVE the choice of choosing between LOCAL UNIVERSITY and MMU. Although the cost in LOCAL UNIVERSITY is MUCH MUCH cheaper, i still prefer to study at MMU due to it is an established university with its own REPUTATION. The consequences is EAT LESS MEAL, SACRIFICING my dream to own a NEW laptop, choose the CHEAPEST of the cheapest stuff to SAVE.. Now, impossing RM100 is TAKING my meals away. We're not from a rich families. Most of the students here borrow PTPTN to study. With the RM100 might cause them dont have a good meal in order to save more money.

I hope, i did not make a wrong choice by choosing to study at MMU. It's too late for me to regret now. Management, please think of those who barely spent RM6 a day for meals. RM100 is equal to one month meals for students. SRC, pls help us (students at MMU) cause u guys are the one who REPRESENT us (the students at MMU)and also one of the students at MMU.

ABOLISH the IT fees TOTALLY and NOT REDUCING the fees!!!!!!...

From,
MNES (MONEY NOT ENOUGH STUDENT) @ FRESHIE

I am staying off-campus, as with many other MMU students. As most of us will just head back to our house after classes are over, we won't use the campus's Internet facilities as often as those staying in hostel. What is the justification to require us to pay as much as those staying in hostel? Why not ask the hostel students pay more? In fact they should pay more for using more bandwidth, not to mention they are using it round the clock.

They should not be so simple minded by taking the lump sum and divide it by the total number of students regardless of their usage.

Anonymous said...

I totally DISAGREE with that decision..who do you think we are? is it not enough yet with that fees payment that students pay in every semester? oh come on...not all the MMU students come with high income family! MMU should have responsibility to provide service to students..not to take a money from students..remember, this is IPTS..as a students we are customers to them..and CUSTOMERS ALWAYS RIGHT!

One more point, if cyberjaya campus/students get much more improvement than malacca, why dont they pay for it? We pay like RM10 only and they pay full RM100. That would be adil lah. Or better we shouldnt upgrade any blady thing! MMU is under TM right, so why dont TM just support or give the damn connection free of charge?! Aiyoh, all money money money..

Solution:

1) We ramai2 tunjuk perasaan so they know what'll happen if they mess with us ;P

2) Just collect RM1 per student. You should get more that enough money to buy all that stuff.

3) Dont upgrade anything if u cant compromise any improvement to us.

4) If the cyberjaya campus will get more facilities, tell them to pay for it not malacca pple.

5) Now it's not the time for u to impose anymore fees. Try later.

6) Finance division should think about other way to gain money rather than ripping it off from students. What about soem fund raising activities? concert? bla bla bla? something like sure heboh? selling something?

Its not justify at all...

How many time we use internet in MMU? We juz access MMLS to download tutorial questions during lab. We hardly or shall I say NEVER do anything that require "high speed" internet. This apply to most IT students and partly Engine students. What about management student?

Melaka wont be having the facilities like Cyber, and yet we are paying the same amount of $$ and still using old comp in lab (software eng lab, unix lab, apply lab).

Internet increase from 800k to 2M? this is juz an excuse. They do not provide options to those that do not use the internet in campus or seldom use. Its totally unfair.

Worse of all, they cant guarantee a better performance of MMLS or Online System after imposing this IT service fee.

Within this 2 years MMU already increase/impose alot of fees. Eg, Tuition fee, Library fee, Parking fee and now IT Service fee. What else will they increase/impose? Do we need to pay entrance fee to go toilet?

Recently we already have this "Expensive sales" across the whole country. Fuel price hike, food price increase. Everything increases except salary.

My personal monthly expenditure also sky rocket.

MMU doesn't run on Petrol nor food that we consume everyday. Why are they charging us more and more every year? We are just students, a lot of us come from poor family background, thats why we need loan from government. Government loan also juz provide us with the sufficient amount of $$ for our suffering studies. How many of us actually skip meals? Breakfast already become a past since we left home and study here. Skipping lunch is a routine for most students.

SAY NO TO IT SERVICE FEE! FEE INCREMENT KILLS!

Anonymous said...

This is a Robbery!!a hundred bucks for IT services?i never know that MMU IT service is so worthy. If the mmu really do want earn some $$,please at least get a better excuse...IT services for 100 bucks? This excuse is "sucks".

Even a secondary school's student know how to calculate the profit make by MMU...
after the library fee issues, they still didn't have any significant of improvement,i strongly believe that is not much different with the
IT service too. Therefore,if they really do collect hundreds bucks for IT service, please ensure that we can really obtain the benefit from what are we paid off. They at least needed to maintain the quality of their facilities and upgrade, but the
fact is always oppose.

As my sincere regard,SRC please reject this IT service, we do not want like "SRC has appeal successfully to reduce the Library fee/IT service's fee",we want SRC totally reject this IT service fee. This is not a requires, but it is a must.
SRC,please fight for the right of mmu's student,we are not donkey waiting for ride.If SRC is always compromise with management, they better change their name to "SRC-Saya Rasa Cincai"(i like voluntariess). If a SRC can't even protect the student's right,SRC=student representative council?
lips my ash!!

WTF? Improve your basic facilities first la, macha! The library still NO DIFFERENCE since they impose the library fees. What happen to the students money they collected? 100% goes to that baldy guy? SRC also had promises a few improvement through FMD. So, far FMD just manage to improve a study place located behind library. How about other matters? Lack of shaded path at Hostel to CLC and FSER to library is still pending? Elevators are still slow and inefficient? Refurbishment and repairing work for Astaka should be improved before April?? Now already June for god sake? They have no excact reason to impose new IT fees for such stupid reason. They should really justify crystal clear!! One thing I hate about this finance division, they impose this and that, just for fun. IT fees for upgrading network? Arrgh.. this is all bull... They should improve the labs in FIST first. For god sake, micro lab still using windows 98 and the specs sucks. If the computer there sucks, no point of upgrading the network. FOSEE labs are damn better and faster and higher in specs compared to FIST. WTF? Is this really Faculty of IT? So, 'ketinggalan zaman' compared to other faculty. MMU should improve these kinda off shit before moving to new kinda of shit. Just by sucking RM100 for each student isn't a great solution. They never ensure that with a new kinda fees will guarantee an excellent service. Most of it, just talk only and no action. For instance, we never now where does the money from library fees goes? Well, I strongly suggest that SRC this time not just a puppet following orders from the university... It is time to abolish this type of ridiculous things. If you(SRC) continue supporting IT service fee, I bet next time the student will not support SRC no more. And I'm pretty sure that MMU will use SRC again and again to impose new fees again in the future... Perhaps they will charge the toilet this time? Or maybe they'll implement an autopay car park system in the campus? We never know... The MMU's admin are full of ideas suckin' the students money nowadays... If worst come to worst, I will contact the media and press to hunt out this matter.

OMG, they are charging us for a service that sucks and often useless.
Most lecturers have their own websites to get notes. Even i hardly go into mmls. It's useless, and the VIEW PROFILE function is useless, you edit your profile for what ? other people wont be able to see it. Also the announcement function is just BULL! no alert or whatsoever.

I'm an IT student; i can make a better website than mmls. And it seems that they just changed the website design slightly; straight away want to charge us for that ? It's pathetic , it's SO OBVIOUS they just wanna make more money. WTF

zefiriel said...

I think they should just add the charges into the tuition fee silently, bits by bits, rather than allowing SRC to know about it, and allowing SRC to get feedback from students.

That way, no one would know anything, and there will be no complaints.

No shouting at the university admin board, and no stupid unappreciative remarks towards SRC.

Walla! Solution found! I'm a genius!

Well, as a matter of fact
It is just an excuse for the University to charge us more money.
Last year, they charged library fee.
This year, they wanna charge IT fee.
Next year, it could be another thing like security fee(for security dept) or whatever.
Frankly speaking, the system(MMLS etc) has existed for a long time. As SRC has raised up, there is no guarantee. So, isn't it like asking us to pay for something that you might not get, just like lottery?

Anyway, the university should not charge this fee at all in the first place. Rightfully "Multimedia" University should have such infrastructure.

It is a totally "no" to this. Or else, combine all fees under one. No point trying to split RM60 - library, RM110 - student trust fund, RM100 - IT fee and so on. In the end it adds up to a very huge amount, just split to "blur" our eyes.

Hope that SRC can raise all our feedback and get the relevant responses from Finance dept. Thank you.

This is ridiculous! Last time it was the so called 'library fees' and now we have to deal with another. And they wanna suck RM100; there's so many students in MMU, both campuses combined; sure they don't need so much to cover the so called 'upgrade' in which there is no improvement at all. If there is any improvement (which there isn't, as in seen after we paid for that library fees), I'm sure we wouldn't mind paying for that RM100 so much. Furthermore, as Cyberjaya campus is going to get the better end of the deal, why not make them pay more? The upgrade in wifi service is not particularly necessary; minority of the students are using it anyway. MMLS service and online course registration is supposed to be free; would they rather we do it manually and have to line up whole day to be able to register? Furthermore, there's not much point in upgrading all that when the computers in our lab are still so outdated and practically unusable. Most of us stay out of campus anyway, so we do not use much of the service provided. In short, that so called upgrade will turn into nothing at all in the end. I think majority of us would rather stick with what we have now instead of wasting our loan or parents' money in paying for this non-existent upgrade. As seen from the many outraged comments given here, we hope that you all, as the representative for the student body, request for voiding that fees impose, instead of just a reduction.

Its just as simple as this..
If MMU wants so much money...
Why not just say it directly..
Don't make lame excuses just to 'rob' students of their money..
Why not just say that the university needs cleaning money to clean up the loads stack of cigarettes buds at the back gate..
One point to remember..
Why do we even need to pay the IT Services fees if the system is not guaranteed to be fully operational all the moment..
Its the same as investing in a non-profit organization or project...
SRC need to pay the fees also right?they are students after all..
So its just not right for these people above to give bad comments about SRC..
But then..please SRC...you must understand how we all suffer with the number of increasing fees day by day...
So isn't it just better to abolish the IT Services fees..

It's already bad enough that you don't have constructive comment to contribute, and you say things like this? What, you're from a rival university? If you're an MMUian, it shows how little you know about the struggles of the uni.

- Ask the financial department to give reasons for imposing the additional fee. (Reasons must be justifiable, not some petty excuses)

- Please ask the finance department to show us what happened to the Student Trust Fund that we pay every year.(We want to know what happened to every single cent of the RM 110 that we paid)

- Conduct an open discussion with financial officers as you've proposed and please only allow civilized people to attend the meeting. (Don't want to be attending a meeting where people are shouting and screaming at each other)

- Please ensure that the open discussion is being held at a convenient date and time. No point in having the meeting when students are too busy preparing for midterm exams or going back for holidays.

- Please ask the finance department to consider the fact that Malacca Campus is seriously lacking in facilities compared to Cyberjaya Campus and it would be unfair to expect us to pay for second grade services.

- If the Finance Department insists on charging us, then there's nothing we can do but please do ask them to state what they are going to do with the money. Please provide us with facts and figures and milestones. (We want them to prove to us that they are actually doing something with that huge amount of money)

- Please ask the finance department to sign a contract with SRC as the student's representative that the university would do something beneficial for students with the money that we are going to pay. (Planting trees, changing the MMLS's skin color DO NOT COUNT)

- When the term of contract ends and there's still no improvement of facilities, PLEASE RETURN US OUR MONEY PLUS INTEREST. $_$

If you want to comment on something do so constructively and not curse.

In my opinion on the price charges, it is too much. Sure, we may be well off if we're able to study here in MMU, but it doesn't mean that we're loaded with cash. Most of us don't use the Wifi here, and there are hundreds of students here. SUrely the price for maintaining the website cannot be that hefty. Why not lower it down to RM 50 or something, it would much more acceptable by students all in and all, and it would sum up to quite a huge amount if all the students pay for it. Or, the money can be used to go for getting better equipments. If our cousin university in Cyberjaya has enough to get a lot of equipments, surely we as well have that capability. Or, is it because MMU melaka is that much of a rundown place that the management decides to ignore it?

Hmm..another budget proposal to upgrade university..maybe this is not a proposal but already been decided by high-up. I just got some question on their IT services improvement plan:

-how they plan to improve IT services...leemesee the blueprint
-is it really need that much amount of money and worth it or not...i doubt
-when they plan do the improvement after they get our money...right away??
-who will be responsible if their "upgrade" IT services fail to satisfy majority of our students...hmm i wonder who will be the scapegoat.
-what will they do if the improvement doesnt significant or can be consider failure...maybe refund plus interest..that would be nice

Anonymous said...

My suggestion is that MMU's administrators must prove that they do fully utilize extra fees we had paid so far before they even think about asking more $$$. Lame improvement won't convince our students. If things keep going like this our students might go into rebels. Hopefully next time they will think twice before try to do anythings stupid . (They might think what they do is right but for us student is 200% wrong)

Anonymous said...

I don't see any good reason to impose a fee for hardly anything... a few colour themes in MMLS, a restricted bandwidth on bad hardware needs RM100 from each student? Totally unfair! That is a huge amount of money when all the students contribute. As it is, much of my parents' money that is spent on the courses here are not worth it. Why is this university going into decline all of a sudden? The reasons they've given us are downright stupid! Is this the kind of place that is aiming to become a world class university?

MMU suckS. Library fees, and now internet fees ! They claimed that they have a faster bandwidth, but obviously it is SLOW! This IT SERVICES fee is TOTALLY RIDICULOUS.I think they just desperately need a money, money from STUDENT ! owh ya now i realized, this is private university, we are more like a customer, not a student.. They only care about their money and reputation ! What will SRC do? It is so clear that many student wont satisfied with this stupid fees.

I dont think there's even the need to impose that fee. First, rice price went up, followed by fuel price, and now MMU wanna impose IT fee on STUDENTS!! Students need to eat rice and some needs to travel, imagine how much they need to spend on the daily expenses and now with this so-called "IT fee" which I don't think will benefit anyone as the computers in the Malacca campus sucks badly. The high fee we paid is enough to cover those expenses for maintenance of the facility! I fully agree that MMU is Money Making Uni! Good job MMU!

Library fees already hurt my pocket big time! What now with the stupid IT fee? Fellow students, lets MOGOK peacefully outside the campus entrance. We should show that we are not a child to be mess with.

NO TO THE NONSENSE FEES!!!!

Just say NO. Its easy people. Other Universities in Malaysia do NOT charge their students such things as it IS the universities responsibility to manage, update and provide such basic facilities to its students to improve themselves. It is as simple as that. They have no right to impose ANY extra charges nor their reasoning is right in any ways.

Although we are students we are also paying customers so we as students could take action by complaining to the proper outside authorities like the ministry of education and the consumer affairs dept to stop them from doing such nonsense.

Heck, this coming meeting with the MMU people on Thursday I'm so gonna bring this up. Be there people! Its time to show them who's the REAL boss around this parts!

VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!!!!

seems there are more than 100 comments regarding this stupid IT fees..all of them disagree to charge another RM100...so,i think SRC should really put in effort to voice out our opinion..we vote for you,and we expect you guys show us results after what we had did for you...what happened last year about the library fees really dissapoint us,just decrease the fees from RM100 to RM80..onli RM20 different..suppose it shouldnt charge at all...all these facilities suppose NOT TO BE CHARGE AT ALL..TOTALLY FOC...we come here to study, not to "DONATE" money to MMU...what happen to the library fees just let it be...now,juz the 2nd week of school, new announment that we students have to pay extra RM100 for the IT maintenance...dont you think it is dame ridiculous...we dont have the resposibility to pay these fees...and the server of MMU does not seems is in good condition...last sem registration,i send 2 complaint letter, reason, waited for 2 and the half hours only can registered..waste of our time...and sometimes cant even access...can you 100% guarantee that after paying RM100 the systems will function 100%...if you cant guarantee and promise, please dont show the face to collect any extra fees from us..this is very unfair to us and also ruin your own reputation for nothing...

"a good leader always fight and stand for his "supporters",listen to his/her "supporters" opinions will leads he/she to success"

so,i totally DISAGREE of any extra charging fees...its suppose to be TOTALLY FREE...

Anonymous said...

we as student, have to pay 100 for IT maintenance? what is the logic? imagine the whole campus student paying 100, what u can about it, n yet pay yearly, do the IT system really improve? still same, n yet here written that cyber would get a better service...it is just so rediculous. and yet, mmls gt improve or not, still the same old mmls, we student just download notes there, nothing much also..is a waste to pay the 100 and get stg like that.

think twice before they ask us to pay 100.

Just for the record,MMLS,course registration, finance kiosk, bulletin board and other online services that you have on online.mmu.edu.my is not UNDER CITS including the SERVERS.

Services that's under CITS are VPN,Email,FTP,wired & wireless connection and AV.

One more i like to add. If this method doesn't work, lets REFORMASI the brutal way! We should use brutality to solve the problems sometimes as the best defense is to attack. We must use this method to win!!!!!

Seroiusly, MMU is really wanna stabbed us to death. What are they think of us? All come from rich family? Our parents can easily get RM100 with just a blink eyes? MMU's gotta be kidding.

As for the IT service fees, I'm totally DISAGREE. At first I enrolled to this university, I fascinated with all the "promise" given by MMU on the pamphlet. Providing Internet service for free (coz we already knew MMU is under Telekom Malaysia, so internet connection not be a problem, but it turns out the other way round), provice a better place for study (library can't even accommodate 1/4 of the MMU Melaka student, u can see this during the study week where students keep looking around in library just to seek a place to study, but at the end, there is no place available!), best quality lecturers to deliver better lecture (some of the lecture I can say, its better to study on our own, just go to class to take the attendance so that we weren't getting barred at the end of semester), computer lab facilities (but sad to say, the computers on the lab is better to donate to museum. Its too old, too slow, too many virus!), all others crap that MMU promise to provide us but at the end, its just a bullsh|t.

U know what? If this crap "fees" gonna be imposed, I'll write a complain to a newspaper so that MMU will receive a bad reputation, and the next year after that, there just a few students wanna further their studies to MMU. And as a result, MMU have no more money to sucked up, and MMU will be closed down due to bankrupt.

Dare to imposed the crap "fees" on us?

i really dont agree with this fee its so unfair to student in melaka bcoz the bandwidth cyberjaya get are more andvance than us..so i think this is discrimination of melaka student...n totally dont agree..oh mmu really suck student money no wonder its name MMU=MONEY MAKING UNIVERSITY

seriuosly i feel dissapointed with MMU. Why do they want to increase things? didn't they realise that not all of us use this stupid wireless.

PLEASE, SRC, REJECT THEIR PROPOSAL OF INCREASE THE FEES.

MMU's administrators obviously know our students wouldn't agree with this matter but still want to bring it out. Library fees issue haven't yet completely settle down now they rise another issue. I think they reaallly ask for trouble. My experience tell me that there is no way we can escape this fees now after they had bring it out unless something really big happen. No words can express how angry i am now......

Anonymous said...

i think it is obvious that if finance division proceed with it's plans to charge RM100 to student for IT services,it will increase the anger of MMU students as well as their parents...COME ON MAN!!!seriously!!!korang nak buat aper ngan duit tue sebenarnye???...this university is already very rich...money grabbing bloodsuckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wtf MMU..still want to suck people money liao..darn it! we all here to learn and gradz only..better stop ler tis free..no need one..waste!!

IF RM10-RM20 I CAN CONSIDER OK..
BUT RM100!? crazy!!

Anonymous said...

To justify the introduction of this IT service fees, we first have to look into a few issues. Firstly, why do we NEED the MMLS system? Universities overseas provide student services for no charge. (refer below for fee structure of universities overseas)

http://www.kingsu.net/page.aspx?id=136660
http://www.iua.ac/fee_structure.php

It is MMU's own idea to have their course registration online, so it is also not justified that we have to pay for the system. We students can do manual registration otherwise. And trust me manual registration WILL be more of a hassle in terms of maintenance cost and integrity for the university, not for us students.

Personally, i do not use wireless services in MMU, so that fee is also not justified. Just collect this fee from those who register at CITS, please?

What other online systems do we need to pay for now? Finance kiosk? Really, changing conventional services to online, and charging us for it. MMU management is disappointing. Try thinking of other ways to get money apart from collecting compulsory payment from students!

Anonymous said...

it only to burden up student.
the tuition is already expensive, now have to pay more fees??somemore the system we using is not good also,so is it worth for us to pay?wireless oso not evetyone using !!cheh!
making money university!!

SRC please oppose this... ridiculous fees... ppl have said that the new president is more to academics not money... i cant see how...no more online notes, now IT fees... no more online notes = more fails = more retake = more MONEY for MMU...
and this fee? Str8 forward... $_$ uni... sigh...
MMU ftw la... money minded Uni, money making Uni...

im out of mmu if this thing happen..
better register in local polytechnic then studying here, the service will be remain the same..
beside than that, even hostel residents prefer using celcom or maxis broadband because the internet line always breaking down..

kejam! kejam! mcm ni ke nak tolong rakyat? dah kaya raya lagi nak tamak.. sat lagi bankrap, baru hangpa tawu!

max said...

such a disappointment from different sides. why would MMU impose it only after new students are already registered for their first trimester, after their sponsors have already determine the accumulated fees. and what, it's due not only for the new intake, but those who are previously enrolled.

not the first increase, yet nothing changed to better, not even slightly.

honestly I'd rather pay for a Celcom Broadband .. etc, than paying the extra fee

Anonymous said...

all the comments that we had written here as if src will do anything for student rights.
as if they will take ACTION.
if they did, where is the improvement?

Anonymous said...

This imposition is totally too much. According to the latest statistics on MMU's site, there are more than 10k students in Malacca alone.

RM 100 x 10k students = RM 1 mil.

Do they really need that much money annually for maintenance and upgrades???

Plus, as many has pointed out, there is no guarantee that the IT services would improve. And also, obviously, many are staying off-campus and the hostel could not accommodate all. It definitely isn't fair to charge the same amount for all students.

1) The charge of IT services for students living in the hostel should be included as surcharges in their rental, just like how EmeraldPark and Ixora are including the services in the total monthly rental.

2) Students living off-campus should not be charged at all. IT access should be a privilege accessible by all students without any additional charges. Staffs are also using the internet services. And I am certain that there are staffs who also use the internet for personal matters instead of work. Thus, they should be charged too. And they should be charged equally as much - not a single cent less.

3) The ICEMS, MMLS, course registration, etc, etc are applications in which the university requires the student to access to obtain the information and/or perform the tasks we need. It is not fair for them to charge us to upgrade the servers. In fact, it is their responsibility to upgrade to ensure the efficiency and smooth-flow of the systems. If we need to be charged to use these applications, then I'd rather do course registration manually on papers and lecturers should give handouts of the notes instead of uploading them.

4) Lifespan of computers aren't long as technology advances fast-pace. Many of the computers within campus are old and weary. (Computers operating on Windows XP should be considered old as Vista has been released at the end of 2006, nearly two years) Plus, many applications installed in the computer are of the older versions and they are not updated. E.g., there are many computers which still operate on Microsoft Office of older versions. Thus, some files created using the later versions could not be opened if they are not saved in compatible modes. Could the university also guarantee the upgrades of hardwares and softwares besides just the server? I doubt it.

weird.. i tot u guys spend so much money on other stuff like.. handphones, starbucks, movies, dating, unnecessary computer upgrades, cars, holidays etc etc.. and cant pay rm100 per academic year? sheesh

what the heck they want to charge us on the internet fees..we are under telekom sdn. bhd and we should have the advantage to access on internet freely. since the new mr. president is from UNITEN before he enter our peaceful MMU, so he, with joy want to change our tradition to be like UNITEN. what else the mr.president plan to do after this?maybe limit the internet usage from 7p.m to 7a.m only?

Anonymous said...

just give them the 100 buck and make a sign agreement that they will upgrade all the system on both campuses with that money. and put a clause that all upgrade will be inform to the students and what is the cost. and lastly the remaining money shall be return back to the student. with that kind of money a lot of it based development can be develop. we are multimedia uni so we need to be on top of the it development just saying. and if u say other non it courses wont benefit from this think again cause we can give free software to the accounting student we can give law student online resources just saying if we have the money a lot can be done.

Head
[SRC]::Dialogue Session with Prof Zaharin (President MMU)

Dear Student,
There will be a dialogue session with our honourable President of MMU regarding IT services charges that will be impose in the near future. In addition to that, if there is any matter that you would like to voice up, this is your chance to do so. The details are as follow :-

Date: 3 July 2008
Venue: FIT Atrium
Time: 3 pm
Attire: come as you are

Your attendance will be much appreciates and this is a very rare opportunity for you to voice out your problem.

Regards,

Students Representative Council
Multimedia University
Cyberjaya Campus

Well anyone wanna represent MMU Melaka over there? Or should we get him to hold a dialogue over here n Melaka. I believe it would be quite unfair to just held the dialogue only at cyberjaya as he could be more able to convice them due to better facilities.

MMU melakan here..

Firstly, when MMU impose it's library fees,

Are there any improvement with the library facilities? Besides a new signboard for show purpose. So far I still haven't notice any improvement with the library facilities. Dead PCs are getting more in the library, no maintainence work has been done to improve the situation at all after the imposation of library fee.

It would be an absurb plan to actually impose on the a new fee when there isn't any improvement from the imposation on the previous library fee. Show us improvement that has been done from the previous fee before asking for a new fee.

I also do hope that students realise that we had already pay for the Library IT fee already where isn't much improvement are done in the library. everything is still the same. CITS didn't even bother to fix the dead stagnant PCs over there.

Also there are student who said ask for cheaper fee, let me ask you
"Why are you paying for something that you might not be using and unjustified?"

...................................

So on this 3rd July, MMUians, let us be heard at the dialogue.

OMG i just join MMU the fees is extremely high now there still charge more and more and more again. One credit hours costing about RM 300+ One subject costing about 1k. A year alrdy cost me about RM 13k while PTPTN only give me RM 16k then the rest of my life just depend RM 3k per year. Where those money go to ? By the way i am staying outside the campus so those wireless i also no using it. Don't tell me PTPTN is for your study fees and no your living expenses. This a kind of stupid reason. Besides that our loan also hold by the MMU. no work part time also don't know how to survive. Don't think all student in this U is rich. Just coz MMU can get PTPTN loan i only join. this is extremely no fair to impose so many fees to the student. Anyway MMU is still education sector which educated public. Everthought the shareholder benefit have to protect but no with this method please!!!!!!!!

I think MMU management department is too proud with the current University reputation until make them think that such an action wouldn't cause any big consequence.

I am looking forward what will be the consequences if this fees really get effective.

Anonymous said...

Good thing i am still a FRESHIE. If this really happen i certainly will pull out from MMU. May be i will go to TAR.

Anonymous said...

I think this is not enough,

how about fees for walking in campus, breathing in campus,

how about a toll for per entry?
and sitting on chairs in class.

and after that just add a few more charges and call them adjustment.

Anonymous said...

TAR college is good. pay about RM3000+ for a year. more variety of food at there (melaka price). also offer scolarship. BUT engineering there not that good and have to spend about RM20000+ for a top up semester in UK to get a UK degree.

Anonymous said...

if the president wan to come out tis fees pls ask him come out and have a talk.if mmu x money is their problem they no have the right to charge us as they like to pay they debt outside.....

hey, listen here leechers.

i'm staying in cyberia. many thanks to mmu, now i need to pay for both tmnut screamyx and the mmu self-proclaimed-100mbps-but-super-slow-internet. plus, i RARELY use the internet there. doesnt it sound unfair? and how many out there use the mmu dial up? they block certain ports, and yet, did the connection improve? and did mmu hired outsiders for the mmls? nub.

so much for the rm100.

Anonymous said...

Ahh, another scheme by mmu to earn extra cash, must be the new SHINNY head president idea from increasing fuel price to raise xtra money . As they say why should we Melaka campus students pay the same if Cyberjaya could get better service and extra speed, right ? Unless, they willing to cut half the amount from RM100 to RM50 for melaka students, it still reasonable enough.

Talking about that, i been here for 4 years now and MMU have been sucking money out of students like giant leech all kind of fees some even not related to your course. like library fee, which i dont see any changes at all, unless they talking about crack up pc, that for sure the number is increasing. Unless they can they can totally promise they can overcome the server down and course registration issues, i dont mind pay xtra that also in half RM50 the most( I already empty in my wallet ), I read one of the comments that someone say why we can spend money on handphones, starbucks, movies etc and why we cannot pay the extra RM100. I will tell this to his or her face, If you are that filthy rich and no place to throw the extra money around, why dont you pay for us,the poorer students, i sure RM100 just tissue paper for you and most which is almost 90% of us, dont go starbuck that often, mayb twice once a month the most and dating sure-lah have to come out money, which gal want a penniless guy ?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, another extra fee, sheesh why lah mmu have so many extra fee, which nothing changes at all with the extra fee.

I using laptop and you tell me the current speed at mmu is good, i rather hang myself, keep disconnecting and unstable speed.

I hope there some changes if i am forced to pay extra or i will go finance department and make some noise. I done that before and i wont hesitate to do it again.

Anonymous said...

RM100 per student then that will be RM500k if there are 5 thousands students. What will MMU do with those money? They gonna fix all the infected + slow computer? I heard it's about some sort of broadband, did the broadband really that fast? I think all the computers internet speed are limited and I believe it'll be no difference even though they've upgrade the internet or what-so-ever. If they bring in new computer + virus free + fast internet(without limited speed) I don't mind paying that RM100. And what about next time? There'll be accessories fee? For fixing all those chairs, tables and etc? Then another equipment fee to fix all the projector and those lab electronics? Where are all our money gone? I hope that MMU will cancel such fee as it's just too much, if each year MMU take RM100 from 5 thousand students(approximately), then what can MMU use the money on for the 2nd year and 3rd year? Maintainence fee for those computer!?? Are you sure those maintainence is that much? I believe RM30/40 each year/per student is already more than enough for upgrading those equipment or maintainence fee. And about those vandalism I hope MMU will do something about it.(Like filtering/virus check those computers, CCTV in classroom/lecture hall to monitor those who vandalize and ask them to pay for it.

haiyo, government increase that, now MMU also want to increase this. Norm of life I guess.

Anonymous said...

common sense ok? this is just a tactic of collecting some fee. If the actual charge is RM20 and they put RM20, sure everyone complain and end up everyone paying RM2 to settle. If they start off their price with RM100, they let u guys bargain and end up they can collect RM20.

Anonymous said...

I'm extremely disappointed with MMU. We had already paid more than what we are supposed to get. We paid a large sum of tuition fees but end up what we get is broken chairs and tables, unfunctioning air conditioner and Projector in Block A and B, dirty toilets etc. Every semester we mentioned about our concern on these things during online evaluation but no actions were taken. What's the use of having online evaluation when no one even cares about these problems?

RM100 for IT fees is a huge burden for most of our students. Students are burdened with the increased of prices in food, petrol etc. Now MMU wants to charge us with another RM100 when we are not using some of the facilities like Wireless system? Why not charge only those who are using it and those in hostel? We all have our own streamyx at home and some even dont have laptop, so there is no need for us to use the MMU wireless system in campus. I doubt MMU wireless will be faster than our home streamyx!

Last but not least, if MMU really get on with these RM100 IT Fees, I doubt I will continue my studies in MMU anymore because of dissatifaction and disappointment. My younger siblings will not pursue their studies in MMU in future years too. The huge fees had already burden our financial. Now just hope SRC would do us the best by the abolishment of these unacceptable IT Fees! ABOLISHMENT and not REDUCTION!

Anonymous said...

To SRC, we can't be charge anything that doesn't benefit us. By looking at the service provide by mmu, many student choose to use own pc because of the slow on service such as the bandwidth is to slow, pc's always in repair (not enough pc's also) and not
every places had wifi signal! (again its connection not very good).

Anonymous said...

In my opinion,i am strongly disagree that we still have to pay for the IT service fees. This service is a must that MMU has to upgrade for all the students. What for the students still have 2 pay for the fees?It is the MMU reponsiblility to let all the students have the best facilities. For example what we did in the online evaluation also no use.Now just hope SRC would do us the best by the abolishment of these unacceptable IT Fees! ABOLISHMENT and not REDUCTION!

I believe that those so-called 'administrators' of MMU are just implementing these 'fees' to squander our money. This is Malaysia; always taking the easy way out to earn some extra cash based on everyone's expense. This is daylight robbery and I believe that these fees are the brainchild of some lazy group of people who do not want to work hard for their money but prefer to rob from people who are inferior in comparison to them ie. students. I suggest that the ACA be brought into this issue to investigate potential corruption that is being carried out in this university. Honestly, I believe that the vast majority of students would just rather pay the RM100 and get on with their lives. But this is NOT about the money but rather about the priciple that we shouldnt just give into demands. Yes, they can have dialogue sessions and discussion meetings with student representatives but all these are just facades of lies. You can discuss and talk all you want but in the end, if those dirty lazy fools want easy money, they'll get it. An TRUE PRIVATE institution of learning should not be too concerned about earning profits FROM students but should rather earn their profits from the academic achievements produced by the university. Again, this is evidence of a lazy group of people wanting easy money. For the upcoming meeting session with our President or whatever titles he want to give himself, I strongly suggest the SRC DEMAND the answers to these questions:

1. An in-depth precise tabulation of costs needed to 'upgrade' and 'maintain' the IT systems in the university ie. the costs needed for additional hardware and software and human skills.

2. The rational and reasons for implementiig or upgrading certain existing IT systems. Also, explain the future benefits that will be reaped from the RM100.

3. DEMAND TRANSPARENCY. Ask the President WHO in particular came up with this idea so that ALL of MMU can hold him/her responsible if the RM100 is not put into good use.

Best regards.

I strongly disagree for this to commence as well.
As an fcm student, i RARELY uses the library and still have to pay for the library fees. GRRR!!

And now, for them to charge for IT serv. fees is totally unacceptable! Imagine those who are staying off-campus and already splitting bills to pay for their house internet bills which roughly add-ups to approx. more than rm200 per year!
I've tried connecting via wi-fi on campus and it's totally pointless. The connection just sucks.

Why would weeeeee students have to pay for everything?
I mean, it's a TM-university right. Even the TM-ppl are
using free internet. They've already profitted a lot on the library fees, imagine how much would they get if they really do charge for the IT serv.fees.

COME ON SRC DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!

People hear so many good things about mmu (indah khabar daripada rupa), and I myself, was shocked the first time I set foot in MMU Cyberjaya.

The facilities aren't that well-equipped. The wireless connection is too slow, and worse, sometimes there is no wireless signal at all. Looking from the facilities provided here in cyberjaya, this 'university' is no different from any other government university. In fact, the facilities provided in government university (or any other private universities) are way more equipped than here. No pun intended.

First, the hostel. Oh, did I mention the surau? Muslims rarely go in there to pray. I don't have to tell you why. You should've seen the condition of the surau. Such a disgrace. But let's drop this subject, since we are talking about the internet service here.

My brother, who is a cyberlaw lecturer in the local university, was quite shocked to know that the internet service in MMU is too slow at times (especially when you're accessing important sites that contain a lot of images, for your assignment research on the internet browser). It is widely known that Multimedia University is under the coverage of Multimedia Super Corridor. But it doesn't look like it. Now what the hell MSC is for? MEPS cash, e-debit, Touch & Go? Hell, even the bandwidth of the internet connection is slow.

It is unfair for students who could not afford the fees. Studying in this university burns enough hole in your pocket, let alone to add another burden to these students. We came here for the education, and the facilities we thought were way advanced than other universities, are nothing more but mere lies.

What would other people think of Multimedia University? A private university which lives on people's money. If you have money, then come here to MMU. We don't care if you don't meet the standard university requirements to be a student, as long as you have the money. Give us the money, and you will become a student.

We don't expect Multimedia University to be perfect and flawless. But we expect Multimedia University to be consistent, reliable yet, provides good education.

SRC, please do something. We know you can do better than this.

After a successful imposition of library fee, now MMU grubs for more! The latest announcement that MMU is planning to impose an annual IT service fee of RM100 from each student starting this trimester has exasperated everyone. Complaints are heard everywhere. But look, the Finance Division can't hear you; the President can't hear you. The voice of SRC alone is too soft. Now we need to borrow the foreign force to amplify our voices!

There will be a press conference held at DAP Dun Ayer Keroh Service Centre on this coming Thursday. Press and media will be present at the conference.

Date : 3/7/08
Time : 12:30PM
Venue : 63-2, Jalan DB1, Taman Bukit Beruang Indah, 75450 Bukit Beruang.
(Same row with US Pizza, second last lot)

We have a common and ultimate objective, which is to press MMU to abolish this nonsensical idea for now and the future.

Please try your best to attend the press conference. It's time to stand up and fight for our rights. It's time to show MMU the power of students, that we are not idiots for them to exploit. We are the people who make MMU survive today.

Listen MMU, enough is enough. We are fighting back this time.

(P/S: Please SRC, if you call yourself a student representative, make sure you attend the conference and speak on behalf of the students!)

With all the possible inefficacies described in the announcement even after the charges, how can anyone expect us to agree to it?

First of all, Finance and CITS MUST show us PROOFS that

1) All current flaws can actually be fixed.

2) Finance is out of money and therefore seriously needs our contribution. If so, how did the out-of-money situation came about and exactly how much is needed to improve the system? Are the money gonna be used for other purposes, like staff salary? If so, what's wrong with current salary?

3) After checking on Q2, we would probably discover that RM100 per student is TOO MUCH. According this fact (http://www.mmu.edu.my/TheUniversity_facts.htm) we have about 20,000 students, then it would amount to RM 200,000. You can buy a cyberia apartment with that money.

4) We pay RM60 per student for library fees. Granted, no many students actually use the library, except going there and study, which would only expense to air-con charges and tables and chairs depreciation. Admin should also show us the usages of all this money. If it is not fully utilized, then why cant we used that money to supplement for the need in IT dept.? Again, assuming we have 20,000 students, that'd amount to RM120,000. It is shocking to know that the maintenance of a library requires so much.

We dont want to see claims of how much the admin wants us to pay, or what is the markup fees. We want top see HOW that figure came about. For a university that still requires us to study Moral and Ethics subjects, it should practice that very preachings too.

WE WANT TO SEE TRANSPARENCY. Show us the reports.

SRC, please set up a meeting with all the officers in charge so we can blast the questions. They also better have some proofs to show us then.

If nothing is done within the university, I am going to take this up to the newspapers and all. Not kidding.

Err. The total amount should be RM100x20,000 students = RM2 million. Means u can buy like 10 cyberia apartment at one shot.

MMU gotta be kidding.

I think, if MMU wanted to impose this new services fee, there should be some conditions.

1.) MMU must confirm that the service provided will not be down at any time, otherwise a refund of the full amount should be done to the students.

2.) MMU should charge at discriminate price for different campus, as the service quality provided is different. Since, Melaka can only support to 34Mbps, then RM34 should be imposed at any case ONLY!

Add more if you feel there should be somemore else. Kindly copy the previous and add more in the next post. Let our "so called SRC" to help us fight for such TERMS & CONDITIONS of Students.

Alright, I'm glad that we have a foreign media to voice our concerns louder regarding the new imposation of IT fees.

Do note that the impostion of the previous library fees aren't justified and now they are asking for a new fee.

Here's a word to the new MMU President. The imposation of the new IT fee would reflect really badly on your presidency of MMU. I mean, you see, in just less than only 2 semesters, you have approved to impose the Library fee and also the pending IT fee. A very bad damage as the president of MMU. This shows that the University is incompetant with its financial expenditure. I'm sure many student will be critisizing your leadership from this day onward. Being the University's President, you have displayed poor leadership in the management of the university.

Abolish the fee or get a bad reputation, Prof. Zaharin.

Making Money University ?????

its true???!!

So what are waiting guys…?
We students, what are we waiting now is that MMU will say the coming sem the toilet will charge some amount of money e.g RM130 this is really possible and they can easily decide to increase it, and we are not happy to impose us such things or every thing and we are voting for you SRC, but you have to implement this insha allah. One more thing (SEGGESTIONS), it seems that mmu will lose too many students/customers those who are coming the up coming semesters when they heard that MMU increases every thing every time, so this ridiculous.

last year library fee charge to us but "NO" improvement make to library as i see...book that can borrow still less, library computer broken so long but no ppl repair. AND now still want student pay what they already pay and include in the tuition fee. As i not mistaken, MMU is TM university, should say under Telekom company too. WHY upgrade the bandwidth still need student pay the cost??? Isn't this upgrade service should be free or less cost that MMU can afford? And for this maintenance fees of MMLS, course registration system, wireless services and other online systems, I am very shock when i hear we need to pay for maintenance fees. We already paying the MMU staff salary and other service charge, all this already should include in the tuition that we pay. Or MMU want us directly pay the salary to MMLS staff??? Although we are student of MMU, but we also the CUSTOMER of MMU, this education service is not free and expensive than other university in Malaysia include private university and government university. BUT some MMU department staff still treat us like they staff only are the customer, not we student. I dont know why i pay so expensive tuition fee to get this kind of rude and bad treatment and response from our "Good" MMU stuff. I suggest SRC place a booth at CLC concourse(Melaka campus) to get more feedback from student as there are some of them still like tarzan in the forest, not always check bulletin and still not know this critical issue.

Quoted from Wikipedia : "As of Jan 2008 the university has a total of 19,464 students enrolled in 110 different courses in both campuses"

which means, MMU is going to earn an extra 1.95 million by charging the IT fees. With 1.95 million a year, a MULTIMEDIA university which focuses on MULTIMEDIA cannot guarantee a smooth access to its core services website to students? What are they going to do with the 1.95million a year then?

And since we're "A TM University", why should we charged for IT fees when ISP is one of the core business of MMU's parent company, TM?

it makes me think that MMU has ran out of idea how to squeeze the money out of its student.with this rate of increasing fees, i'm now paying as much money as other premium private college in malaysia, but all i have is lousy equipments as in secondary school.

Do they ask UNITEN student to pay for "campus electricity fees"? or maybe UTP student to pay for "campus buses petrol fees"?

MMU is definitely going down.

Anonymous said...

This is BULLSHIT!! There is no reason for all of us to pay the RM100 for the so-called 'MAINTENANCE'. MMU can't even improve on the services of the lifts and toilets. Now the education fees are more expensive than before, but where did the money go?? Management 'eat' already? Cyberjaya campus can built a new swimming pool and mini stadium. Why can't just save those money to spend on the IT?? MMU think of its own reputation or students' privilege? A TM university, but i think TM did nothing on helping us. SRC stands for what? They can't help anything most of the time. Actuality in action? I think it should be Stupidity in Action!! Students will appreciate if ALL of your MEMBERS try the best to help us!!

I have already sent an email to the FINANCE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE and this was their response you can read it

Assalamualaikum wrb / Very Good Day

Dear Student, Thank you so mcuh for your feedback. We shall look into the response and shall call for further discussions. We understand your concerns and rageon this issue. At the end of the day, we wish to provide the best services to our students. However, all these involve costs and being a private university, we don't receive any grants or subsidies from the government and not even from our parent company to provide better facilities and services to our students. However, we have not thought of charging fees for using the toilets in MMU. Never crossed our minds actually. We will be communicating with the SRC offices for further discussions. Thanks and regards.

To LinkinPerk,

Whoever comes does not matter. It's just a conference and great chance for MMU students to speak out their frustrations, instead of shouting here.

Well, the press conference will not focus only on IT service fee. I'll also voice out other issues especially the library fee.

Look, our objective is to give pressure to MMU and send them a strong message not to fool the students.

Oh...all you SRC people do is thank us for the feedback and WISH to provide the best services for us students?
Try making the WISH come true..This silly RM100 thing is adding burden to all of the students in MMU..We are paying a vast amount of money and what do we get in return?? i can tell you NOTHING!! Facilities in MMU Malacca SUCKS...the lift is always not functioning properly, the tables and chairs are all BROKEN and the class rooms are in the WORST condition! FIX ALL THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE MMU EVEN THINK OF UPGRADING AND THINK OF THE SO-CALLED MAINTENANCE FOR THE USELESS WIFI THING!

We are getting something back from MMU...HOLES IN OUR POCKETS and DRIED UP BANK ACCOUNTS!

1st, MMU increase our tuition fees then made us pay for library fees. Now we need to pay for IT service fees? next is what? do we also need to pay for using the toilet too? Can MMU promise us (students) better facilities before they make us pay? Please provide us better quality of services & facilities before they force us to pay. We aren't money printing machine. now we know why our uni is called MMU (money making university)...

Anonymous said...

Well, I've posted a few comments before. Just wanna add one thing. If they really want to add any new shitty fees, they should also inform the PTPTN officer @ any loan personnel to also increase their loan payment to the student. Moreover, even with the current loan from PTPTN also not enough since the stupid Pak Lah increase the petrol price and everything goes up high like hell! Even we, the students limits our budget, we still suffer for god sake! We are also humans you know! We need food to survive. Where is your mind, MMU admin? Think using your brain la, not your *ss!

Anonymous said...

Somehow I get the feeling that MMU's going to play its same old cameo back.

" Thanks to the student's feedback, the SRC has manage to negotiate with MMU and the result is the MMU administration has decide to decrease the IT fees from RM 100 to RM XX . We understand the student's burden during their campus life.

Thank You

Dear SRC,

This not something we'd like our fellow MMUians to be trapped into. MMU should find methods to cut cost from their admistration if the operational cost is too much, instead of pushing the burden to student. Being an established private University, it is the university's responsibility to provide QUALITY education.

It would be a shame to Prof Zaharin to have this happen during his presidency. This reflects badly not only on MMU but also Prof Zahari's reputation in his profession. And this thing is going to the press and media on the 3rd July.

Prof Zaharin, do you intend to be the worst MMU President? To be a president where with no respect from the student?

Think about it MMU.

THIS IS A JOKE !
It is so ridiculous to tell other people that i have to pay the so called " IT fees " when i am studying in MMU , the so called highly facilitated private uni!!

RM 100 is not a small amount at all !! majority of us are PTPTN holders! and most of us do not have the full loan, which barely covers our fees ( before the increase in fees. Where should we fork out this RM100? Starve ourselves? Camp in campus to save rental fees?

what's more, the fees does not comes with a definite promise from the MMU admin.. but even if they do so, i seriously doubt their word too . . .

I am currently doing my internship and am currently away from campus.. SO, CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY AM I IMPOSE TO SUCH FEES??
even after my internship , i still dont go wireless in campus... Fees to maintain MMLS keep crashing down?

To Allison Beh,

thank you for the information.
several of us already received several of ur flyers.

Hmm, as far as I concerned the rm100 thingy actually still not finalize and confirm yet (refer to the Finance posting by SRC)

So, I don't think dis is not the best way (press statement) to voice out our dissatisfaction even me myself not agree with this matter.

From my point of view we can go through this method if this is the only way we have after we tried other option.

Yesterday, I've already contacted one of the SRC top person, he said that they are compiling a better proposal plus those comment written here (blog) to make sure our university management side aware regarding students response.

Sometime i think, Where are all the money that we pay goes?? each trimester, adverage student will pay 4k-Long trm, 3k-short trm....so atleast per year, RM12k each student give as Tuition fees..

if 20k students pay RM12k a year..so 20k x 12k = RM240Mill ..

Let say MMU have 500Lecturers + 40 prof + 500 staff..

each,let say, 7k, 12k and 2k each monthly salary..

So,each, 3.5Mill + 600k + 1mill= 5.1Mill per month... x 12Month = 61.2Mill

240mill-61.2mill = 178.8Mill

Mentenence fees (annual IT Fees) + Bill ( Water + electric) + Utilitis(toilet paper+ A4 papers)

40Mill + 10Mill + 50 Mill = 100mill

Balance 178.8Mil - 100Mill = RM78.8Million..Ballance for a year

So.. do we still need extra Fees??

P/S- Since the University Never Show Their Actual Account to Investor(student), I assume all of Above are True =)

MMU been imposed library fees for RM60 per year to every MMU student since last year but so far I still haven't see any facilities improvements in library here. They even increased the parking sticker fees. But is there any sign of extending parking area? All we can see is cars parking in the middle of the road at EP there due to insufficient parking in campus. Probably they just imposed the fees on us, then use the money to develop cyberjaya campus. Even for this RM 100 IT fees, it is unfair to those that are not using the wireless provided in campus. Honestly I've never step into CITS for more than 1 year. They should upgrade the facilities for melaka campus before charging any extra fees. Just like the lift in CLC can be out of service for 1 semester. Where are all the money goes to? If MMU wants our money, please learn to give before you want to take.

DEAR BALDY AND MMU MANAGEMENT TEAM,

I have 4 suggestion:

1. MMU MUST PRESENT OR GIVE OUT THEIR MMU FINANCIAL YEARLY BUDGET TO THE WHOLE STUDENTS. - JUST LIKE MALAYSIA BUDGET 2008...

2. MMU MUST ALSO DO CHECKLIST ON COMPLETED UPGRADES OR UPDATES AND MUST INFORM THEY STUDENTS.

3. MMU MUST JUSTIFY CLEARLY WHERE THE HECK DID OUR MONEY GOES? NOT JUST SIMPLY WANT THE STUDENTS MONEY WITHOUT ANY CLARIFICATION.

4. MMU MUST SHOW PROOF OF IMPROVEMENT ON THEIR FACILITIES OR SERVICES BEFORE WANNA S*CK THE STUDENTS MONEY. AS MOST OF THE COMMENTERS SAY, NO IMPROVEMENT HAVE BEEN SEEN TO THE LIBRARY SINCE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF LIBRARY FEES. THE ONLY THING THAT I COULD SEE, JUST A NEW SIGN BOARD FOR MMU MELAKA. I DON'T REALLY KNOW IS IT THE WHOLE STUDENTS MONEY JUST FOR THAT SIGN OR JUST ALL THE MONEY WENT TO CYBERJAYA CAMPUS? DO CLARIFY THIS THING FIRST!

talk without action, everybody also can do la...

Anonymous said...

RM100??Here's a thought.
STOP ALL DEVELOPMENT IN CYBERJAYA.
BEGIN NEW DEVELOPMENT AND UPGRADING IN MELAKA.
IT IS UNFAIR FOR STUDENTS IN MELAKA.
WE ARE PAYING STUDENTS!!
WE PAY THE SAME AMMOUT AS CYBERJAYA STUDENT.
BUT GET LOUSY SERVICE AND FACILITIES THEN CYBERJAYA CAMPUS.
REVOLUTION IS NEEDED IN THIS INSTITUTE.
WHERE FAIRNESS IS REGARDED THE HIGHEST ESTEEM.
ALL YOUR STAFF WAGES ARE OUR MONEY.
FEES THAT WE PAID EVERY SEM.
REMEMBER THAT FELLOW MMU STAFFS,EVEN YOU MR PRESIDENT ZAHRIN.
THE GRAINS OF RICE YOU PUT INTO YOUR CHILDRENS MOUTH IS OUR MONEY.
IN ISLAM,IF WE DON'T HALAL WHAT YOU FORCE US TO GIVE,AND THE RETURN IS UN ACCEPTABLE,YOU AND YOUR KIN WILL ONLY DESERVE HELL

Dear MMU Management:

As a student from Melaka Campus, I would pled you stop using our money for the benefit of the cyberjaya campus. First is the library fees, which is aim in improving the library in Cyberjaya. And in the past few years, how many new facilities has been build in Cyberjaya campus? The new FIT building, the new Sports Centre, The New STAD building, and not to mention the new Grand Hall. But Melaka? Only the new FOSEE building. All these inbalance development has caused MMU Melaka students thinks that MMU management has treated unfair towards the melaka campus. But then now the MMU wanted the Students in Melaka helping in develop the infrastructure that would greatly benefits students in MMU cyberjaya which i don't think the MMU Melaka students are really satisfied with it. We hope using this opportunity to express our unhappiness towards MMU management in focusing their attention towards Cyberjaya and spend some focus to Melaka.

Hi guys,

I'm from Cyber and I just finished my last sem. As of now I'm just waiting for convo to get my cert.

With regards to this issue, I would just like to say that MMU is as good as it can be because of the free internet.

As much as you can criticize and hate MMU for money laundering, the fact remains that MMU is one of the top uni in Malaysia. Being here for the past 5 years I have seen it achieve much strength in various fields. I believe that this strength comes from our FREE INTERNET usage.

Most uni like TAR and to some extent some local unis don't even have internet in their uni. The reason we are so wanted in the working feild is due to our familiarity with the internet and computer. To us, internet and networking is 2nd nature. Ask any mmu student and he will tell you he knows how to use bit-torrent or access an ftp.

This liberation of internet savvy students can only be achieved if the uni is providing FREE INTERNET. Charging a fee is a deterrent to students to learn more.

You guys need to get it right! Free internet is what got us to the top and will continue to do so. You guys should be figthing for that. Don't put blame games on bias towards cyber or that sort. What you should be fighthing for is FREE INTERNET! I believe the guys at cyber want free internet as well.

Just remember that because we had free internet, we started to learn how to blog, we learnt how to set up servers and torrents and we learnt how to use google. It is because we had this freedom of not having to worry about internet fees that we willingly explore the unknown. This is what free internet has done for us(or me at least) for the past 5 years and this is what gives us the extra edge over all the other uni students in Malaysia.

Of coz all this does not matter to me anymore because I am not oging to be with mmu much longer. However I would just like to bring you guys back to the real reason we are fighting for this. Its not about the money. Its about the edge we always had. And charging a fee for that edge will certainly deteriorate that edge.

After looking at all the comment posted. As a MMU student, I feel very disappointed on MMU management, it really make me regret for asking my juniors to join MMU. I been with MMU for 3 years and my bro was an ex-MMU student too feel the same way like i am. He was once very proud for being a MMU student and I looked up to him. I felt proud when I 1st enrolled into MMU but recent years made me kinda disappointed on MMU..

Is time for us to do something to avoid our money keep sucked by our own university~~~

100% support what doing or done by SRC :)

Anonymous said...

First of all, i would like all of us here reading this blog to understand the position of the SRCs. The one imposiing the Fees are not them and they are finding a mature approach to minimize if not totally abolish the fee. Please don't make comments like "we chose you, so do your job!". They are also students. Try to imagine you being one of them. It would be hard to accomplish anything as they are still outside the ring of those who are making decisions. No, i'm not from SRC. And yes, i want the IT fees to be abolished. I know the SRC are trying their best. As i've said, they are also students. They too need to pay the fees if there were any imposed.

This is the news appeared in today's Nanyang and Zhong Guo Bao.

Dear some immature student :

we, as a student , we must fight for our right , but pls use a proper way. Pls do not involve some unrelated politic parties in our university. It only will "low grade" our MMU . Stand with SRC and let them have enough time to prepare all the things. They also student , and they also need to paid the fees.Pls be a understanding person when face to this kind of issue since we are consider ex-Hicom from several clubs .

Pls do not use the phrases "i voted to you , pls do your jobs". If think yourselves really tough enough, pls come to nominate yourselves as SRC 08/09 , I also will voted you as our REPRESENTATIVE . I think it's not that appropriate to impose the IT services fee on the students. MMU management and the CITS should hold the responsible to upgrade and maintain the IT services but not the students as we already had to pay for the fees and 'others' as well. It is their duty to provide good and better services to the students. Even though, if we pay for the IT services fee we still unable to get the services(Issue 1, 3 & 4) that we need. Provide the proposal to improve, upgrade and maintain the IT systems (H/W or S/W). Bring it to the public on the implementation and the amounts. Curiosity is within all of us. There should be a better REVIEW on this IT service fee matters!

I am not a student of MMU but have run into conflict with the University's system from the past and been dragged onto till present day. After years of frustration, I am writing in to seek your advise and assistance and put an end to my misery with MMU's enrollment system.

4 years ago, I applied online for Masters degree study with MMU and received an offer letter from Liverpool Uni before MMU replied anything. I have since then accepted Liverpool Uni's offer and never replied to MMU's offer. 4 years later since that incident, I received a call to pay off an accumulated fee of RM2000, and was threatened a lawsuit shall I fail to pay up. My mum answered that call and I was not there to speak out or clarify the issue. These have elevated my family's stress and worries. I have never accepted MMU's offer, neither do I have an MMU student ID. Why am I charged that ridiculous amount of money without my consent and threatened to be brought to court shall I fail to pay up? That to me is daytime robbery!

I suspect that this is an internal systemic failure, probably a change in management or an introduction of new policy. I somehow got dragged into from the backlog clearing activities. I have no idea what is happening and is at the mercy of the university's management. I have no answers to a long list of why, what, when and how in my mind. I would really appreciate if the student representative council can lend me a hand in resolving this issue on my behalf. I cannot afford to take leave to travel up to MMU to resolve this issue.

Many thanks,
-Daniel-
